THE STORY BEHIND THE MAPS
The story behind our company starts in 1975....or really since time immemorial (that's further down). During a trip to the Big Island in this year, Jack and Carlene Coleman looked around and decided this would be their new home. They fell in love with the island, and returned back to New Mexico to sell their business and never look back. Over the next 4 generations of their descendants since then, they watched as their family became a wider and wider melting pot of different cultures - including Polynesian - and rooted themselves deeper into the ʻāina. My grandparents were adventurers and ambitious - among many other things - and the inheritance they left led me to return to Hawai'i with my own family in 2020. Living in Hawai'i, one learns the meaning of Aloha, generosity , and living with the land. Being a mapmaker, I decided to create memorable maps that reflect these concepts and which can also bring a smile to the faces of people who have visited.
